Essential information
on the subject.

1 - Functional evaluation
With the aid of computerized equipment, the orthotist can observe how a person unrolls his footstep and see how the body weight is distributed on the plantar surface. He can identify conditions such as a flat foot, a high arch with too much load on the forefoot or external side, a collapsed forefoot, or an overload on the left or right side. The orthotist also evaluates your skin condition before designing a plantar sole. A plantar sole aims at restoring your comfort and balance, and diminishing your knee and back problems. You will feel relieved and be able to go back to your leasure or work activities sooner.

2 - Orthotic design
The orthotic is designed according to the patient’s needs. The estimate includes the orthotic components, design layout, and fabrication. A sitting impression of the foot is made, paying close attention to the proper alignment of the knee and forefoot. We use a special plastic material to ensure an accurate foot print; we never use foam.

3 - Fabrication
The foot orthotic is made according to the orthotist’s design, requiring sophisticated equipment and special materials. LABORATOIRE LANGELIER-LANOUE only uses materials that are thermoformable, never prefabricated. The fabrication is made by the laboratory.

4 - Final adjustment
The final adjustment of the orthotic is done by the orthotist at the time of delivery. Because each orthotic is made by the laboratory, it can be readjusted. The orthotist makes sure that the orthotic is constructed according to the prescription and the estimate. Then he verifies its compatibility with the client’s foot and shoe. The orthotic and the shoe must form one unit. This determines the quality of the final result and the improvement of your condition.

5 - Follow up
All information concerning your case is recorded. The file includes your identity, requests or prescriptions from health professionals, reports they received and the results of the functional evaluation. Afterwards, the orthotist sends a report to the doctor containing the details of your situation, and indicating that the orthotic is well-functioning and meets your expectations. A follow up is scheduled every 6 months for children and once a year for adults.
